Consultation on Bluebird Flight

The Lake District’s most iconic water craft – the Bluebird jet powered hydroplane – may soon be able to speed along Coniston Water again if a public consultation is favourably received.

Members of the national park authority have agreed to ask for views on changing current rules which could allow trials for the craft to exceed the existing 10 mph speed limit on the lake.

The Craft made famous by its 7 world water speed records and immortalised by its final run that killed the British record breaker Donald Campbell.

Footpaths repaired using Roman method

Two major mountain footpaths in the Lake District have been repaired using Roman techniques.

Using modern machines workers dig down and bring material up to the top to create a hard-wearing surface with vastly improved drainage.

Machine drivers have used the methods on the lakeshore at Buttermere and from Mardale Ill Bell to High Street. Hoping to combat erosion with this 2000 year old method

Mint Bridge plans unveiled

A Supermarket chain looks set to occupy Kendal Rugby Club’s old ground when the team moves from Mintsfeet Industrial estate to a new site near Oxenholme.

Developers unveiled the first outline impression of what will become of Mint Bridge this week, which included plans for a food store and separate DIY and garden centre units  at the site off Shap Road.

Architectural plans for both sites went on public display in the Kendal RUFC clubhouse this week, drawing a mixed response.

The Mountains come to Kendal

The famous Kendal Mountain festival is in full swing this weekend at the brewery arts centre in Kendal.

The event that is fast turning into a must visit event for outdoor sport enthusiasts features lectures, debates, art and of course premiers of some of the best outdoor films.

Special transport has been put on to help enthusiasts get to the event just showing the huge success of the event.
