After a rollercoaster two years a village shop is about to throw open its doors signalling a huge community success story.
Witherslack, on the southern fringe of the national park, has been the setting for an unrelenting offensive following the closure of both its pub and post office.
Now thanks to villagers’ efforts, both a new store and refurbished hostelry are emerging.
Boosted by a £20,000 grant from the Lake District Sustainable Development Fund and £30,000 in cooperative shares, a trading post for organic, Fairtrade and locally produced products will specialise in service with a smile.
SDF has helped over 400 community and environmental schemes with grants ranging from £100 to £28,000.
